Beanstalk Books is the home of decodable readers. We offer the largest collection in the world of purely decodable readers to support all children as they embark on their journey into learning to read. Our Letters & Sounds Decodable Readers range are 100% decodable. Each series of readers follows children week-by-week through the programme, providing them text-based context to practise their emerging ready skills. Every story has been written with a strictly controlled text. Children are only exposed to words and text that is decodable (can be sounded out), based on the letter-to-sound correspondences already learned.

Phase 1 (Phonemic Awareness) is the understanding that the spoken word can be broken up into small units of sounds that can in term be manipulated. Key operations taught are blending and segmenting sounds. Early skills are developed through rhyming and alliteration.
At the Phase 2 (Letter Sound), students will learn the first 19 letter sounds. Students will also learn to read and spell CVC words. They will read decodable phrases and sentences.
At the Phase 3 (Phonics), students will learn the next 25 letter sounds. Students will read and spell with simple digraphs (for example oa in boat). They will continue reading decodable phrases and sentences.
At the Phase 4 (Blends), students consolidate their knowledge of letter sounds in words that contain adjacent consonants. Students will practise blending for reading and segmenting for spelling.
At the Phase 5 (Vowel Sounds), students will broaden their knowledge of letter sounds for use in reading and spelling. They will learn new alternative ways to spell particular vowel sounds.
At Phase 5.5 (Sound Families), we have developed our own unique and extensive Sound Family decodable readers to introduce alternative vowel sounds so that children can become familiar with phonemes being represented by different graphemes.
This is my first year using decodable books and this was my first set. I am so impressed with the quality of the books. I am a second grade teacher, but my students have been learning online since the spring of K, so I am teaching a very wide variety of readers. I have a few students who are not yet able to access the leveled books in our library - I am so grateful for these books and I look forward to getting more!
I have a 5 year old who I am home schooling and after checking out all kinds of options for months I was drawn back to the beanstalk decodables. They provide all the levels of reading we need and they're great value!
The Letter and Sounds decodables are fantastic. They allow children to revise known phonemes or sounds and include a range of different spellings. I particularly love that the decodable series is cumulative and builds off already learnt phoneme/grapheme relationships.
We school on the road and my son is interested in all sorts of animals so these decodeable readers were perfect. The pictures were so well displayed and the text was the perfect size in helping my son continue his journey with being a confident reader!
